Art that tells stories of hope

About the Artist

I'm Jonna Santos - Liban

I am a fine artist and sculptor working primarily with paper, creating intricate paper tree sculptures that speak of growth, hope, and transformation. Using recycled and discarded paper, I craft pieces from what was once torn or forgotten, giving them new life through art.

Each creation reflects a deeper truth: that even what seems small or broken can be made into something beautiful. This process mirrors a truth that continually shapes me. It means that renewal is always possible and transformation is real, not just in nature, but in us, and that nothing is ever too broken or too small for restoration.

My work is a gentle invitation to others to see themselves in a new light and hear my art whisper to them, “You too can be made new.”

My Story

I’m an artist from the Philippines, now based in Philadelphia, with a deep love for paper and its quiet strength. I’ve loved drawing since I was seven, often sketching for fun on the back pages of my parents’ electronics business record books. Using whatever paper I could find to bring my imagination to life.

I went on to study Fine Arts and Design, majoring in Advertising Arts, and received an Outstanding Thesis Award for my exploration of paper as a creative medium. Over time, I taught myself both digital and traditional painting, developing a love for fantasy illustration and visual storytelling.

During the pandemic, I joined a local art organization in my home province where I exhibited and sold a traditional painting for a charity event, further deepening my connection to art as a way to bring hope. While my background spans both digital and traditional painting, my heart has always returned to paper.

I’m especially drawn to handmade paper. Its texture, its imperfections, and its symbolism. To me, paper is about transformation. Scraps becoming something new, fragile materials shaped into lasting forms. It mirrors the quiet process of healing and renewal, which is at the heart of my work.

Now living in the U.S., I’m continuing my journey with paper sculpture. Creating pieces that reflect resilience, beauty, and the gentle, powerful hope found in becoming.
